The second of our five-part Words to Live By (Divrei Chaim) Speaker Series will be on Tuesday, Dec. 4 from 8:15-9:30 a.m. in the Lower Division Discovery Lab. The entire community is invited to attend.
The Divrei Chaim, Hebrew for “words to live by,” serve as the foundation for our entire school community, including students, parents, and faculty. Our school's Divrei Chaim include kindness, integrity, curiosity, community, and purpose and form the basis for both character development as well as academic growth.
Each segment of the Words to Live By Speaker Series focuses on one of the Divrei Chaim, highlighting its value in today’s world as well as its connection to Denver JDS.
This second program will focus on “purpose” and features keynote speaker Rabbi Baruch HaLevi, a Denver JDS parent and co-founder and CEO of welaunch.org. Rabbi HaLevi's discussion will answer the question, "How does harnessing the power of words help us move towards purpose?"
For more than 15 years, Rabbi HaLevi served as a synagogue rabbi in Los Angeles, Des Moines, and Swampscott, Mass. where he built one of the most innovative and successful congregations in the country, as detailed in his book, Revolution of Jewish Spirit. He is a serial social-enterprise entrepreneur, renowned motivational speaker, and author of multiple books.
In addition to Rabbi HaLevi, Lower Division Dean Mark Parmet will discuss how fostering the power of words in our students helps engage them in their learning and adds a sense of purpose.
Future speaker series dates and topics include “community” on Jan. 21, “integrity” on Mar. 4, and “kindness” on May 16.
