Donation in Memory Of Avi Halzel

Avi served as Denver Jewish Day School Head of School/CEO for nineteen years. During these almost two decades, Avi was both steadfast and inspirational in leading our school community. His visionary leadership was instrumental in guiding our school to be the thriving Jewish community that it is today. Avi piloted the school through difficult financial challenges, a global pandemic, and a myriad of other challenges with grace and equanimity.

The son of a Jewish School Head and a Holocaust survivor, Avi’s respect for the power and wisdom of Jewish values was palpable. He will further be forever remembered by all who knew him for his love of Israel, passion for the art of drumming, and commitment to educating Jewish children. These passions were manifested in Avi leading the school’s Israel trip every year and playing the drums in school Kabbalat Shabbats. Despite holding such a prominent position, Avi was exceedingly humble-always looking to distribute credit for the school’s successes to others. Avi was the true definition of "servant leader”. Our school is unquestionably better for his leadership, and all who knew him are better for his friendship. May his memory be a blessing.
