In 10th grade, students immerse themselves in Israel through the Ambassadors Ramat HaNegev Teens (ART) program. In the fall, Denver JDS welcomes a group of Israeli teenagers to our school for two weeks to connect with our students and engage in joint programming. Later in the school year, our 10th graders participate in the Hebrew Immersion Program (HIP) when they travel to Israel for a six-week intensive experience.
I shall have brought them into the land which I swore unto their fathers, flowing with milk and honey.
— Deuteronomy 31:20
As a Zionist institution, Denver Jewish Day School supports Israel and fosters a love of the State among our students.
The study of Israel and Israeli culture is infused throughout Denver JDS and is prevalent throughout our classes, spreading into the hallways and throughout the school. Israeli music, poetry, and stories are often used in class, especially Hebrew and Judaic studies classes, and our teachers infuse the study of Israeli history and current events into discussion and programming.
At Denver JDS, we follow a layered and developmentally appropriate progression of instruction, both formal and informal, to provide a safe and unique space for our students to use primary sources and authentic materials to explore the many facets of Israel. We encourage our students to form their own multidimensional perspectives by connecting to Israel in ways that are meaningful to them.
Students in both the Lower and Upper Divisions also engage with our shinshinim (Israeli emissaries), giving them the opportunity to build relationships with and learn from another Israeli in the community, and helping them to build that strong connection to the people and the State of Israel. Additionally, holidays such as Yom HaZikaron (Israel Memorial Day) and Yom HaAtzmaut (Israel Independence Day) are taught in the classroom and celebrated through school-wide programming.
Due to COVID-19, the Denver JDS campus will remain closed at least through April 6th. We are taking this action to protect the health and wellbeing of our students, families, teachers and the entire community.
Denver JDS' Remote Learning program for grades K-12 is underway and will continue through April 6th.
