Upper Division faculty members regularly become mentors, and frequently en route to graduation, forge lasting friendships with the students at Denver JDS.

Meet Mr. Snyder

Mr. Snyder has spent nearly two decades in education, and joined Denver JDS in 2004. He earned his BA from the University of Delaware and his Masters from the University of Denver and does volunteer work with Jefferson County Mediation Services. His favorite thing about teaching here is watching kids grow into young men and women. When not teaching, Mr. Snyder loves spending time with his family playing basketball and kayaking.

Meet Mr. Levy

Mr. Levy teaches middle and upper school Judaic studies and Upper Division technology. He has a BA in Judaic studies from George Washington University, a Master's in Jewish Education from Hebrew College, and certification in Jewish day school education from the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies in Israel. Mr. Levy has been teaching for 11 years, and came to Denver JDS in 2008. He believes the most important quality of a teacher is approachability, and his favorite book is Skinny Legs and All by Tom Robbins.

Meet Mrs. Miller

Mrs. Miller has more than 16 years of experience teaching social studies at the secondary school level and taught at the prestigious Hammond School in Columbia South Carolina from 2003-2015. A native Australian, Mrs. Miller has a BA from the University of Queensland and a graduate diploma in secondary education from the University of Canberra. Prior to becoming an educator, she spent three years in the Royal Australian Air Force.

Meet Josh

With a BA in sociology from Colorado State University, Josh has been working at Denver JDS for 15 years (12 full-time). Some of his favorite moments here include Shabbatonim, Color War, and going to the state tournaments in boys baseball in 2009, and boys basketball in 2010. Josh also runs the Summer Blast program.

Mr. Rotenberg has been teaching for more than 30 years, with the last 25 of them being here at Denver JDS. He has a BA in business and a Master's in Social Work from from CU and takes great pleasure in seeing students grow into young Jewish adults. The best advice he has -- for students and teachers alike -- is to have a great attitude every day. Jerry's favorite book is Blessing of a B- by Wendy Mogel.

Meet Mrs. Klein

Mrs. Klein has been a licensed marriage and family therapist in the state of Colorado since 1993 and has a BS from Northwestern University and an MA from California Graduate Institute. She joined Denver JDS in 1994 and loves the community experience here. When she's not working, Mrs. Klein enjoys hiking with her dog, Jack Willy.

Ceci earned her Bachelor's in social work from San Diego State, and her Master's in social work and public administration from the University of Southern California. She has been counseling at Denver JDS since 2009 and loves college counseling because it allows her to work closely and directly with students on a very important aspect of their high school experience. Ceci's favorite moment at Denver JDS is when the graduates throw their caps in celebration, looking forward to attending college.

Meet Morah Greenfeld

Morah Greenfeld holds a BS and MS from Hebrew University in Jerusalem and has been teaching for more than 25 years. She joined Denver JDS in 2013 and loves teaching because it's the best way to learn. Her favorite book is To Kill A Mockingbird and the best advice she has is don't ever give up on a student.

Meet Smadar

Morah Smadar has a BA from Eastern University of Michigan and graduated from Oranim teacher's college in Israel. She has 37 years of experience, and has been at Denver JDS since 2010. She particularly likes the beginning of the school year, when everyone has good energy, and loves to see how students make progress throughout the year.

Meet Morah Danielle

Danielle is a veteran middle school language teacher who moved to the U.S. from Israel in 2014. She earned her BA from Sapir Academic College and her Master's in Learning Education from Lewinsky College of Education. Prior to becoming a teacher in Israel, Danielle was a Big Brother program coordinator and counselor for at-risk youth. She has since spent a year as the Jewish agency liaison (sh'licha) in Toronto and also worked for HEA and Aish HaTorah in Denver.

Rabbi Engel
High School Judaic Studies
Meet Rabbi Engel

Rabbi Shmuly Engel serves as the rabbi of Chabad of Cherry Creek. He grew up in Denver before going off to continue his advanced Jewish studies in Chicago, Toronto, and Brooklyn. Rabbi Engel received his ordination from the Lubavitcher Yeshiva of Crown Heights in 2012, and has worked with Jewish youth in Tzfat, Israel; Caracas, Venezuela; and Los Angeles, CA. He and his wife have two children.

Mr. Halper has been teaching at Denver JDS for more than 25 years, and says the most important quality of a teacher is to care about your students and your subject matter. He has a BA in Education from Southwest Texas State University and his favorite book is the Torah.

Meet Mrs. Kornfeld

Mrs. Kornfeld has a BA, MA and ABD from the University of Pennsylvania. She taught for Denver JDS for two years in the 1980s and returned to stay in 1998. Mrs. Kornfeld loves teaching because it allows her to imbue her students with the passion to change the world. Her advice to teacher and students alike is that there's nothing more rewarding than putting your academics into action.

Meet Rabbi Gerson

Rabbi Gerson has a BA from Brandeis University and a Master's in Rabbinic Ordination from the Jewish Theological Seminary. He has been teaching for 32 years, and joined the Denver JDS family in 1994. Rabbi Gerson enjoys teaching because it provides a way to contribute to the future, and says the most important quality of a teacher is patience.

Joel splits his time working at Denver JDS between teaching in the Lower Division, managing the Blast programs, and teaching middle school Judaic studies. He has a BA in elementary education from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and joined the team here in 2013. Joel's most memorable educational experience is learning to love mathematics in 11th grade.

Mr. Doze is in his 42nd year of teaching, and does so because “it feeds my soul.” Before joining Denver JDS, he taught in the Jefferson County and Cherry Creek schools as well as at the University of Denver High School. Mr. Doze attended the University of Kansas, Colorado State University and the University of Colorado. He also spent a year at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California.

Mr. Hurst grew up in New York City, and started his teaching career on the east coast. He has taught middle school students at the Sinai School in New Jersey, the Windward School in New York, and most recently, the Bruce Randolph School here in Denver. Having attended a Jewish day school himself, Mr. Hurst feels very much at home at Denver JDS.

Mrs. Otto earned her BA from Allegheny College in Pennsylvania, and received her Masters in Education from the University of Phoenix.

Senora Dufrene is a former Denver JDS parent with her Master's degree in Spanish Literature from Middlebury College. She lived in Quito, Ecuador where she taught in the American School for four years. Senora Dufrene has also taught Spanish in the Denver community for many years.
