A message from Avi
Meet Mr. Halzel

Mr. Halzel eanred his BA from San Diego State University and has a MA in Education from the University of Judaism. He has 24 years of Jewish day school experience, and joined Denver JDS in 2007. As a father of four (each of whom graduated from or currently attends Denver JDS), Mr. Halzel also know a thing or two about parenting. In his spare time, Mr. Halzel likes to spend time with his family, travel, bike and play the drums.

Meet Ms. Shapiro

Ms. Shapiro joined the Denver JDS faculty in 2002 as a Technology Specialist and has held many roles here before becoming Lower Division Principal. She holds a degree in Psychology from the University of Colorado and served on the faculty of the Program for Early Developmental Studies at the University of Health Sciences Center before coming to Denver JDS. Ms. Shapiro is passionate about Jewish day school education, and is the proud parent of two Denver JDS graduates.

Meet Mr. Snyder

Mr. Snyder has spent nearly two decades in education, and joined Denver JDS in 2004. He earned his BA from the University of Delaware and his Masters from the University of Denver and does volunteer work with Jefferson County Mediation Services. His favorite thing about teaching here is watching kids grow into young men and women. When not teaching, Mr. Snyder loves spending time with his family playing basketball and kayaking.

Meet Dr. Levy

Dr. Levy has been involved in the field of Jewish Education since 2002, working in the areas of supplemental education, day school education, adult education, and experiential education. She holds a Masters in Jewish Education from Hebrew College, a Doctorate in Education from Northwestern University, and certificates in Advanced Jewish Studies, Day School Education, and Jewish Educational Leadership. She is also a mom to four enthusiastic children and is excited to be a part of DJDS team.

Meet Krista

Krista has been a fixture at Denver JDS since 1999 and became the Director of Development in 2001. Krista holds a law degree from the University of Denver and has an extensive knowledge of the Denver Jewish community. All three of her children are Denver JDS graduates, and Krista is an avid cyclist.

Meet Cindy

Cindy has more than 37 years of accounting, budgeting and forecasting, variance analysis, payroll, human resources and office administration experience. She graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a degree in accounting and received a M.B.A. from the University of Denver in 1995. Cindy has been part of the Denver JDS family since 2008.

Meet Shayna

Shayna has been working in Jewish education for 22 years and administration for 14. She has a BA in English from Tulane University and a Master of Arts in Jewish Education (MAJE) from the Rhea Hirsch School of Jewish Education at Hebrew Union College -Jewish Institute of Religion in Los Angeles, CA. Shayna has three children, each of whom attend Denver JDS.

Mrs. Klein has been a licensed marriage and family therapist in the state of Colorado since 1993 and has a BS from Northwestern University and an MA from California Graduate Institute. She joined Denver JDS in 1994 and loves the community experience here. When she's not working, Mrs. Klein enjoys hiking with her dog, Jack Willy

Meet Dr. Gall

Dr. Gall earned her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado and her M.A. in School Counseling from the University of Colorado, as well as completing a postgraduate certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy. She has worked in settings including schools, university counseling centers, community mental health agencies, and private practice. In her spare time she enjoys hiking, cooking, and spending time with her family (including her dog, Brinley).

Meet Ms. Brigitte

Ms. Brigitte's is typically the first face to greet you upon arrival at Denver JDS. 2014 marked the graduation of the first kindergarten class she worked with 13 years ago. "To say I was a little verklempt is an understatement. I had the honor of watching these beautiful human beings progress from tiny children to the magnificent adults they are today. WOW am I lucky woman," she says. Ms. Brigitte and her husband live in Conifer where they enjoy hiking and camping with their dogs.

Meet Mr. Levy

Mr. Levy teaches middle and upper school Judaic studies and Upper Division technology. He has a BA in Judaic studies from George Washington University, a Master's in Jewish Education from Hebrew College, and certification in Jewish day school education from the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies in Israel. Mr. Levy has been teaching for 11 years, and came to Denver JDS in 2008. He believes the most important quality of a teacher is approachability, and his favorite book is Skinny Legs and All by Tom Robbins.

Meet Mrs. Miller

Mrs. Miller has more than 16 years of experience teaching social studies at the secondary school level and taught at the prestigious Hammond School in Columbia South Carolina from 2003-2015. A native Australian, Mrs. Miller has a BA from the University of Queensland and a graduate diploma in secondary education from the University of Canberra. Prior to becoming an educator, she spent three years in the Royal Australian Air Force.

With a BA in sociology from Colorado State University, Josh has been working at Denver JDS for 15 years (12 full-time). Some of his favorite moments here include Shabbatonim, Color War, and going to the state tournaments in boys baseball in 2009, and boys basketball in 2010. Josh also runs the Summer Blast program.

Meet Mr. Rotenberg

Mr. Rotenberg has been teaching for more than 30 years, with the last 25 of them being here at Denver JDS. He has a BA in business and a Master's in Social Work from from CU and takes great pleasure in seeing students grow into young Jewish adults. The best advice he has -- for students and teachers alike -- is to have a great attitude every day. Jerry's favorite book is Blessing of a B- by Wendy Mogel.

Ceci earned her Bachelor's in social work from San Diego State, and her Master's in social work and public administration from the University of Southern California. She has been counseling at Denver JDS since 2009 and loves college counseling because it allows her to work closely and directly with students on a very important aspect of their high school experience. Ceci's favorite moment at Denver JDS is when the graduates throw their caps in celebration, looking forward to attending college.

Meet Mr. Einstein

Mr. Einstein studied psychology and education at Colorado College, and most recently worked as the Director of Technology at the Steamboat Mountain School, where he taught technology, film, photography and the arts. Mr. Einstein enjoys skiing, hiking, camping and climbing as well as art drama, music and dance. He is excited to teach creative technology tools to inspire Denver JDS students and teachers to become leaders in our dynamic digital world.
