How to Apply to Denver Jewish Day School

If you have a 4-year old who does not meet the October 1 birth deadline, but you feel is ready to begin Kindergarten, please read our Procedures for Consideration of Early Entrance to Kindergarten.

School Tour

A school tour enables you to see Denver Jewish Day School in action. Please schedule a tour with the Admission Office by calling 720-449-9550.

Parent Preview Days

We will host two Parent Preview Days in November on our school campus:

  • November 8, 2012, 9:00 am-Noon – Upper Division (grades 6-12) Parent Preview
  • November 15, 2012, 9:00 am-Noon – Lower Division (grades K-5) Parent Preview

These events provide an opportunity for prospective families to visit our school, observe classes, and hear from faculty, parents, and students. A school tour also takes place. Register online now, or call 720-449-9522. Both of these events will include an affordability meeting to introduce parents to our tuition assistance program from 11:15 am-Noon.

Please note, you are not required to come for a private tour and the open house.  You are free to choose one or the other, but welcome to attend both if you like.

School Visits

The Admission office will schedule visits for prospective students who apply after March 1st on an individual basis.

Once the admission office has received your complete application, you will be contacted to schedule a visit to the Denver Jewish Day School in accordance with the procedures below. Please note, when applying to grades 1-12, a completed application is not required for a school visit. Kindergarten
Eligible applicants for Kindergarten will be 5 years of age by October 1, 2012.

Kindergarten applicants will attend a group  visit on either Jan. 24, Jan. 31, Feb. 7, Feb. 21 or Feb. 28, 2013. Dates will be set by the Admission office.

Private screenings will be scheduled on an individual basis if the admission team feels more information is needed to make the admission decision.

Grades 1-5
Applicants for grades 1-5 will be contacted to schedule a morning visit in their current grade level classroom. Applicants will be greeted by admission staff, introduced to the teacher, and assigned a “host” from that grade. The applicant will participate in all of the classroom activities that morning and stay for lunch (provided by the school). Applicants should arrive at 8:00 a.m. and will leave after lunch  Parents should plan to stay for a short conversation with the admission director after their child is settled in the classroom.

Grades 6-12
Applicants for grades 6-12 will be contacted to schedule a morning visit in our Upper Division. The applicant will be greeted by admission staff and assigned a “host,” from the Upper Division with whom the applicant will attend classes for the morning. Applicants should arrive by 7:30 a.m. and will leave after lunch (provided by the school). Parents will also be contacted by the admission director for a brief conversation.

Notification

Notification will continue on a rolling basis for students who apply after March 5th.

Notification for the 2013-2014 school year will be e-mailed in late February and early March in accordance with the notification schedule set by the the Association of Colorado Independent Schools (ACIS). Specific dates for each grade are posted below.

Grades K-5: March 7, 2013

Grades 6-8: February 28, 2013

Grades 9-12: February 21, 2013

Students who are admitted will receive a hard copy of the acceptance letter and enrollment contract by mail.*

*Temporary contracts will be issued to families who apply for tuition assistance. Click here to view our Tuition Assistance timeline. Please note post-deadline tuition assistance applications will continue to be reviewed on a funding-available basis.
